Mission
The Mekong Information
Center was established in China in October 2003, supported
by GTZ, with the mission to facilitate effective and open
communication between upstream and downstream stakeholders
in order to help realize the sustainable development and management
of the Mekong Basin.
Objectives
Its objectives
focus on three arenas ：
(1) Nationally,
it will provide accurate information to the relevant government
departments so that they can make informed decisions, disseminate
information, raise awareness about the Mekong Basin and promote
public participation in watershed management.
（ 2 ）
Regionally, it will be a platform for the exchange of data
and information between the Mekong riparian countries and
local communities. It is envisaged that this communication
will help to promote integrated, sustainable and peaceful
development and management of the whole Mekong Basin.
（ 3 ）
Internationally, it will increase awareness among interested
parties, including the national and international media, environmental
experts and the general public, about watershed issues in
the Mekong area.
